Design a T-Shirt that expresses your idea of what graphic design is.
Free Write
Before you start this project it is important to find out what is in your own head. Do a free write on a fresh sheet of paper and write the words “Graphic Design is” on the top. Then write a list of 50 response to that sentence that complete it. Feel free to use more than one word. Post this to the site with your other process materials.
Design
The design must have the text “Graphic design is [……………….]” where you fill in the word or words in the brackets. Try to express your personal beliefs about this. While you may be inspired by what other designers say please refrain from using someone else’s definition directly.
Research
Begin by researching the topic in the library, the town of Keene and the web. Consider the audience and context in which the shirt will exist. Think in terms of symbols not illustrations. Consider iconography, scale, punctuation, color and layout.
Typeface
You will use Helvetica Neue Bold (and only that typeface).

Process
The final project is a T-shirt with the design on it. There are many iron on transfer papers for inkjet and laser printing. A few are below:

Post
Create a process post to the class web site entitled “Graphic Design is…” and select the same as the category. Post the following:
- A paragraph of your own perspective on what graphic design is
- your fifty completions to “Graphic Design is…”
- 5 Excellent quotes from designers that speak to what graphic design is.
- 20 inspiration images and designs related to your idea.
- Photographs of your thumbnails for the project

Tuesday, September 2
- Read Chapter 2 of Guide to Graphic Design
- 3 sheets of thumbnails (24 in all)
- Develop 3 of the designs further.
- Find 5 Excellent quotes from designers that speak to what graphic design is.
- Collect 20 inspiration images and designs related to your idea.
- All of the above posted to the class site
