Gather Information

Pick a Zoo
Your poster will be for a specific lecture at a specific zoo.

Choose a zoo that has your animal.

You must gather:

1. Full Zoo Name
2. Zoo Address
3. Zoo hours of operation
4. Time and Date of Event in the year 2015.

Scholar
Find a real scholar who has written and lectured about your animal or plant.

Write
Write a 200-300 word description of the lecture based on existing texts. This text must include:

1. The name of the lecture

2. A blurb about the lecture that summarizes the subject of the talk —200-300 words.

3. The author’s credentials and a few notable biographical details (books, lectures, projects, etc) — 200-300 words.

4. Your Name

Translate

Do an original translation with multiple iterations featuring a close-up detail of the animals face or other significant aspect (paw, pattern, profile, etc). Choose an image that is expressive and interesting with good contrast of darks and lights.

Start with your most successful color translations and apply those effects to this new image.

Do 7 different translations of this image including:

1. Silhouette
2. Filled Outline
3. Geometric Forms
4. Single Line
5. Course Halftone
6. Your Choice
7. Your Choice

Do 5 combinations of selected translations  6″ x 6″  in Illustrator.

Design a Poster

Design a poster that advertises your event. The poster must include all information about the zoo and event and the new translation you have developed. You may also use previous translations you have done of the whole animal. The design should be colorful, exciting and dynamic.

The poster must include the following:

1. Information (see left)
2. New Translation
3. PMS Colors
4. Visual Texture: this is a background element that supports and informs the foregrounded elements. Can be abstracted, photographic, linear, translucent, etc.

36 Thumbnails (3 sheets) of poster designs. Experiment with scale, position, arrangement of all elements: type, image, background texture/forms.

Printed page of 3-5 new animal images for discussion.

Due Thursday, November 20
2 pages Refined Thumbnails 

All new translations in black and white.

Due Tuesday, November 25

3 initial concepts in 2 versions each on computer on 10″x10″
