After reading the chapter “About Graphic Design” I became interested in the artistic aspects of each type of design and how they are used. I want to master the skills of an artistic graphic designer and use these skills to reach my full potential. I want to use the skills I learn to create designs from a business standpoint and I feel they would be great skills to have moving forward. Two of the areas that I really found interesting were environmental design and advertising design.

Environmental Design

I found environmental design interesting because I really felt moved by the physical structure and the three-dimensional layout of the design. I was impressed how graphic design can be presented as an experience for the viewer. When looking at environmental design I could sense the purpose and reason for the design while also finding an “abstract” side to it. Most environmental designs serve a simple purpose but are displayed in a unique way. The following link will show examples of environmental design.

Advertising Design

The other area I found interesting was advertising design. I found advertising design interesting because many companies focus on not only the design aspect of the work but who the design is being displayed to. Many companies who create advertising design focus on the product that is being advertised and the demographic its being advertised to. I found it interesting how much effort and thought goes into advertising design in order to target consumers and to find the right market. These areas of design excite me because I can use my knowledge in the future to create better graphic material while learning the design process that goes into every type of design area.
