Hierarchy
Here is a perfect example of hierarchy being used in a way that the vast majority of college students have created themselves. While these notes are pretty basic, they display the main point of hierarchy by clearly expressing the varying importance of these points through its layout.

White space
This shows the usage of white space. The all black backdrop with the white logo utilizes white space to draw the viewers attention to this Nike ad. This principle of design is used very often in advertising and company logos.

Proportion/Scale
The principle of design proportion and scale are used to show the relative sizes of the planets in our solar system. By showing the planets in proportion to each other, the viewer gets a visual representation of a theoretical concept. This principle of design is often used for purposes such as education and advertising.

Contrast
This picture shows the principle of contrast. Here the contrast of the bright white and yellow of the flower contrasting with the rough brown surface in the background makes this graphic an interesting piece to view.

Movement
This graphic is a good example of the principle of movement. Here, Michael Jordan is featured mid air dunking a basketball. This image is fairly well know and is very distinctive making it easy for people to associate this image with his sneaker brand.

Repetition
This ad for the Iphone demonstrates the principle of repetition. Here, the ad is able to show the front, back, side and different available colors for the Iphone by repeating the image of the phone.

Gestalt Theory
I found it very interesting that Gestalt was german for pattern, form and structure. This seems contradictory to its interpretation as an idea how it seeks to understand how people view the faces of people they know, since faces often are asymmetrical and have imperfections. I also thought that the idea of simplicity that Gestalt theory presents. I don’t know that I agree with Gestalt theory’s idea that people view images in their simplest form, I think that theory applies to peoples memories of images because people will only remember the main point of an image from just viewing it quickly.
