Color Reading Response

My thoughts on color:

Reading these articles and excerpts was very enlightening for me into the ideas on how color works both physically in our world and emotionally in our minds. One particular fact that intrigued me was that there are billions of colors in the world but we as humans can only perceive between ten to sixteen million of those. There are so many more colors that we can even see! That to me was really interesting. The colors that we can see are often used to convey messages in our lives through context. I have noticed this of course in Caution signs and different flags, as well as advertisements and especially traffic lights. We recognize what these colors mean without even thinking about it, our brains subconsciously tell us that certain colors we see refer to different things such as red being associated with STOP, hunger, and triumph or victory. Whereas blue could mean sadness, freedom, and cold. This brings up the point of color temperatures. Colors with a cooler temperature tend settle more in the background of graphic design but the warmer colors come to the front. This makes me think that cooler temperature colors are easier on the eyes and encourage our minds to relax while viewing them and warmer colors though they can achieve a similar effect are more often the focus of a design and bring our eyes to focus on them.
