I found a particular paragraph in the chapter 5 reading really interesting. It discusses how color should not be an afterthought, but one of the first elements that an artist considers when making a piece. Color should be used carefully with intention, not just random. It makes me rethink color. When thinking of using color, I think of having fun and being expressive. So, this idea of using color with precision and having though it our first definitely challenges my normal way of thinking about how to use color. I believe others felt this way as well, and that is why someone decided to make it a little easier to pick colors by creating monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triad, and compound color schemes on the color wheel. I also never knew anything about subtractive and additive color, viewing one end as black, one end as white and all of the colors in the middle nearing one extreme as you add or subtract color.
After viewing the readings, my mind has been opened to the world of possibilities that color opens the door to. There are so many various ways to use and to perceive color. Color can portray moods can portray moods and emotions that the artist may be feeling or how they want you to feel. As stated in the chapter 5 reading, “colors can vibrate and move, create unity and discord.” Color can make or break an art piece, depending if you use it correctly. Color can do so much more than most of us realize.
