Reading about all the different ways color is used in design, and all of its different properties, makes me glad we didn’t start with color right away. I would not have been able to determine when and how to use a certain color. As for what interested me the most about the reading, the way color palettes are chosen actually seems to be one of of the more fun parts of the process. During much of my day, I’m daydreaming about different worlds I make up, and characters that explore them. These daydreams are the reason why I want to be a filmmaker. I’m always thinking about how those worlds look and feel. Color palettes accentuate a certain mood. The color of a location or a character’s clothing says a lot about their personality, and tells the viewer how they should feel about this particular thing.
These readings also made me realize something I had been struggling to understand. For a long while I had thought that particular colors looked better than others. Now I see that that isn’t really the case. It’s all about the colors it’s paired with. I, in the past, tried to use a certain color because I thought it looked nice in someone else’s artwork, but once I started using it, it didn’t look as good. It was really because the colors surrounding it accentuated it more, rather than the color itself.
