I explored the concept of space in design and I believe it’s very hard to read a page that is filled to the top with information and has no white space. I personally like to read things that have some white space because it makes it easier for me to understand the context. As the reading said, “the job is not to fill in all the space in order to impress the reader with sheer quantity of information”. I think that if there’s no whitespace there is no form as one provides the contrast in which to see the other.
An example of empty space is having too much white space in a page or the page doesn’t have a lot of information. They also give examples of active space, which means it’s a page that contains a good amount of information but also has some white space, which makes it not look crowded. I totally agree with the reading, when it says that readers are far less likely to notice or object to too much white space than to an unreadable, crowded page. As I understood from the reading, space can be active and space can be empty and while both have pros and cons we generally want the space in our designs to be active.
