Color readings

Working for the student newspaper, I had heard a lot about CMYK and off-set printing. However, these readings actually helped me understand the topics. It was interesting to learn about subtractive color and additive color. It is amazing how the color when mixed in painting and printing tends to be black and it tends to be white when mixed in the computer. After doing the readings, I realized how important it is for designers to understand the colors and the way they work. Knowledge of colors is fundamental to be a designer.

Another interesting thing that I found interesting from these readings is to realize how the black-ad-white enterprise of graphic design uses color as an integral part in today’s world.

I also agree with the reading on how color changes meaning from culture to culture. Since I come from a different culture myself, I strongly agree with the statement.

After the readings, I feel more comfortable with the vocabulary as well. Terms like hue, intensity, value, tint, balance, depth  and saturation feel more familiar now.

Thus, my understanding from these readings is that having the basic knowledge of colors and how they interact with each other to create contrast or unity is crucial to create a meaningful and an attractive design.
