After reading this chapter on framing, my perspective on frames influencing how something is seen has not only been confirmed but broadened. When I first thought of the word “frame,” I immediately imagined a picture frame, or a large painting decorated with a gold frame. I never thought frame could take on so many meanings. Frames can bring attention to one specific thing, it can separate an item from the background and make it stand out, shelves and tables act as frames for the objects that rest on them. A lack of a frame can create a new frame, a bigger picture if you will. Although, a frame can be more than just an object. It is used in language as well. As stated in the chapter, “framing” in politics refers to how describing problems in a certain way can influence people’s thoughts and decisions. Frames can act as guidelines and aid in direction. In terms of windows and doors, frames act as a boundary, the only thing keeping one from the outside world. Thus, frames can act as protection or a blockade.
