I found the film Helvetica very interesting because it made me changed the view I had in letters and texts I see in our everyday lives. I had no idea that Helvetica is used everywhere in advertising, magazines, store names, and name brand companies. I believe that is a great way to get something across to a large audience so that it is appealing and looks professional. It amazed me to see how advertising looked before and after companies starting using Helvetica. For example, Coke went from these complicating advertisements in magazines with a story behind it to cutting straight to the point and showing just a glass of Coke with a short, to the point, caption.<\/p>\n

Massimo was a very popular Italian designer that influenced a lot of people with his work. In the film, he seemed very passionate about his work which made me want to know more about him. I found it cool how he designed furniture and even started his own business with his wife. Massimo will influence designers for years to come with his skill in his work and immaculate design.<\/p>\n

“Make something beautiful out of something very ordinary”<\/p>\n

My first thought of Michael when he was first introduced was that he was very unorganized and had everything spread out. Once we got a closer look at some of the things he has collected I realized how cool some of them looked. He had a very creative mind by turning things most people find dull and boring into something exciting that he can get happy about. He wants his work to live one for decades to come which shows that he has a lot of pride in his work<\/p>\n

Matthew Carter<\/em><\/p>\n

“The saying goes, Type is a beautiful group of letters, not a group of beautiful letters.”<\/p>\n

Matthew was a very interesting designer that did work for Microsoft working on different fonts for the company. He knew his work was boring to most people but he fell in love with type at a young age and decided to go with it for a career. He has made also every kind of type throughout the past 50 years which amazed me to think about. He explains the typeface Helvetica and how some of the letters have similar horizontal structures.<\/p>\n
