Garamond and Baskerville, for example, were created to find an elegant looking typeface that was easy enough to reader while giving the feeling of stylized writing. Didot and Helvetica on the other hand were created out of the search and desire for a more modern looking typeface even though they were created at completely different time periods. Didot was created in the late 18th century by brothers Pierre and Firmin Didot. Coming from Paris, a city classically up to date with all the different trends, it was regarded as very modern and in-style typeface. The heavy thicks and acute thins of this typeface give it a unique feeling of modernity that almost no other typeface can match. Helvetica was created for much the same reason, the need and desire for an easy to read modern-looking typeface. As opposed to Didot, Helvetica was created in the 1950’s by a collaboration of several different typeface designers. A Swiss typeface, Helvetica filled the need for a modern font that was easy to read in passing without any hang-ups on serifs. The weight and condensed letter provide relatively little stress making it even easier for reading. This typeface can be seen throughout cities and heavily populated areas because of its simplicity and clean design.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Didot and Helvetica The five classic typefaces were each created for a specific reason, each was designed to have a different effect on the passing observer.
