Framing is everywhere, in books, on screens, even in our rooms there is framing. It is my understanding that framing is a way to help the viewer to interpret and observe the design being presented. The frame of a picture focuses our eyes on the subject, and the framing of a screen gives it a border that helps us distinguish when the screen ends and the real world begins. Without framing it would be much harder for us as viewers to see and more importantly focus on the subject of a design or the object a design is trying to accentuate. The frames or borders help with the accentuation. This can be particularly seen in books, the black or dark ink used for the writing and letters is accented by the white or off-white border of the paper page making it easier for our eyes to read the words on each page and give our brains freedom to interpret the writing.<\/p>\n
Language is another aspect of framing that gives meaning to design. Captions and words added to pictures guides a viewer to the intended interpretations of the picture. A picture of two when hugging each other could seem like brothers or best friends, but if you add the words, “Support gay marriage!” then the picture’s meaning becomes completely different. However, sometimes leaving text out of design can have its benefits letting the viewer free to come up with their own imaginative interpretation of the design or picture.<\/p>\n
Windows and doors provide a physical framing for a room and house giving it some style while also adding entry and exit points and free flow of light and air. This type of design makes a house, building, or vehicle feel more comfortable and give the viewer or experiencer an atmosphere that will be aesthetically and physically pleasing to be in. It is interesting to know that these aspects of design have such a profound impact on our daily lives without us, the viewers, ever being aware of it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
