As someone who has always excelled in studio art, mediums such as drawing and painting, I have always been curios about the digital side of things. Aspects such as photography, magazines, and logos have always interested me and I always wondered how an artist translated their work into such clean and modern designs. Sophomore year of high school I took an into to graphic design class and overall was very disappointing. However, the more I grow as an artist and learn as a student, the more graphic design continues to peak my interest. This semester I am hoping to declare a dual major in studio art and graphic design, by doing so the goal is to combine doing what I love with a promising field and profession that will help me be successful in the future.<\/p>\n

Publication Design\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I am interested in publication design because I think the amount of art that is put into things such as magazines, posters, etc, is too often overlooked. The level of artistic tuition that is needed in order to create a successful combination of\u00a0 themed typography and photography<\/a> is something I hope to achieve in the future. An example of this that always comes to mind is National Geographic<\/a>, a publication series characterized by the beautiful landscape photography that fill the pages. As a kid I would always tell people that my dream job would be to travel the world and do nothing but take pictures for them. Although as a kid things like typography and the magazines composition\/layout would not exactly draw my immediate attention, subconsciously the overall aesthetically pleasing piece was what made the photos pop.<\/p>\n

Advertising Design<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Another aspect of graphic design that I am interested in is advertising. I was introduced to this very minimally in high school, however, I did not get to play around with it as much as I would have liked too. I think one of the reasons why I am drawn to this type of design is because it is similar to publication design <\/a>or at least has similar aspects. Overall I think the idea of artistically representing a product, movie, or campaign<\/a> in order to sell it or appeal to a special audience would be a cool career to have.<\/p>\n
