What is Graphic Design?
Graphic Design takes part in peoples lives way more than most realize. Reading the intro to GDP for this assignment made me realize this. Graphic Design can be explained as a mixture of art while trying to convey a type of message or idea to the public. It is used everywhere from Advertisements to Environmental Designing. When walking around in your everyday life as well you come across graphic design projects that people have had to sit down and come up with. Signs, book covers, logos, Graphic Design helps companies try to communicate what they want their company to be through artwork.
This course, and Graphic Design captured my interest because I have always been interested in art. I love playing my guitar and making small drawings and other things at home. While it has always been more of a hobby for me I am interested in seeing what the professional world might hold for art and such. I would also like to be able to hopefully learn some actual knowledge about art and other design specific areas.
Environmental Design
When reading through the different types of Graphic Design, Environmental Design immediately caught my eye. Environmental Design is a heavy mixture between Architecture and types of Design work while using the environment. Growing up my dad had his own Architecture company, so I gained an interest in that field at a young age. Along with that I have always had a love for the environment. Being able to combine these two fields with each other just seemed very interesting to me. While working in the Environmental Design field I feel as though you would be able to focus on making people feel comfortable in their surroundings. I am someone that is heavily influenced by my surroundings, and I feel like most people are. If you were to be able to design an area that just flowed well with it’s environment it can also make people feel more at ease.
Here are a few links that help explain Environmental Design and the possibilities for working in the field:

Brand and Identity Design
Brand and Identity Design was the next area in this field that caught my eye. Brand and Identity Design is essentially what makes a company stand out to the public. It can either attract people to it or deter. It all depends on what image the company is trying to convey to the public. Since I am a skateboarder what I thought about when reading about this is how certain companies have darker looking logos/images associated with their company. In turn these darker logos tend to attract a “darker” style of skateboarding, to include different clothing styles and different personalities. Below I have a few images that came to mind when researching this type of design in regards to “darker” and “lighter” company images.
