Intro:
I am taking this course to not only fulfill a requirement for my major in computer science but also because these two majors can go hand and hand. I have always had interests in both technology and art, so I figured that this course would be not only educational but enjoyable.
Interest 1: Type Design
One area of graphic design that I am interested in is type design. As someone who utilizes a computer and keyboard for the majority of my studies and expected profession, I notice the details of typefaces. For example, I prefer to use Apple products for a laptop, watch, and phone, because I prefer the graphics and fonts. Another way that type of design is relevant in my daily life is in my school work. In coding, it can be hard to find an error that is sometimes as small as a semicolon vs a colon in the middle of hundreds of lines of code. It would be the job of a graphic type designer to create the most legible and accurate font that would make coding easier to read. I think that having some knowledge in type design will be beneficial to my career as a computer science professional. I think that the specific details of something that is small as a font can be crucial in different ways for different professions.

Interest 2: Environmental Design
I like the creative aspect of environmental design. When visiting places like art museums, although I appreciate old artwork and paintings, I have always favored pieces with cool architecture and lighting. I also think that art that combines elements of visuals and sounds are very cool. Creating art out of landscapes and natural resources is something I find very interesting. In my research, I found that nowadays a lot of environmental designer’s work is geared to be sustainable. Another thing that I felt a relation to is the aspect of creating a room or space that people can ”connect to” and feel some specific vibe. Being able to make someone’s experience within a room or area something that they can remember is something I would definitely enjoy doing.
