Graphic design is everywhere, it is so important in our lives that it can sometimes be right under your nose but still manages to go unnoticed. It is a form of presentation where professional designers create visual content in order to communicate different types of messages, ideas and concepts. “Graphic design is everything” and has been for the last 16000 years! Some different types of graphic design include, environmental, motion, corporate, interaction, type design and publication or book design. Time, motion and sound are very rapidly becoming increasingly popular in graphic design! The two types of design I’m going to focus on are type design and environmental design.
Types of design
Type design is the process of designing and remaking typefaces. This type of design is very similar to font design, since both often rearrange or change font types. The main purpose of type design is to brand a new typeface mold. I am an extremely OCD person which is what brought me to this type of design; it is very particular and detail oriented. I also find it very interesting the very different messages you can receive from the same picture just by small tweaks in font, style of the word or color.

Environmental Design
The goal of Environmental design is to create a three dimensional design for the visitor. You may find these types of designs in places like museums! This type of design very often includes uses of signs, some type of informational designs or something very similar. Environmental design attempts to make natural spaces more enhanced. This is the reason this type of design got my attention. As somebody who loves the outdoors and hikes very much I always appreciate anything to do with the outdoors! It also made me wonder if something like the statues of Easter Island would be considered graphic design by standards today, even if that obviously wasn’t the original intention! This is by far my favorite type of design, it can make these attractions so enticing and nice to look at. I often find myself choosing hotels with cool environmental designs rather than a regular holiday inn.
