What is Graphic Design?
After going through the reading and some additional research, I was surprised to see how much of an impact graphic design has on the things that surround you. Motion design for example is only going to become more relevant as time goes on, and technology advances. It’s a medium that uses not only visuals, but sound to highlight actions and convey messages through an ad or short video. This subcategory of graphic design might even replace some forms of print, like posters, drawing people in with flashy screens and sounds. Secondly, Brand and Identity design is something that peaked my interest because it’s essential to having a successful business. Not only do you want to have a good image to the public, but identity designers (if not most designers in general) have to question their work constantly. You might want to pick certain colors to convey a mood, or typography that customers won’t forget.
The reason graphic design peaked my interest is because I’m a fairly visual learner, I do a lot of 3d work, and some 2d animating. I’m always looking for ways to improve, and I’d like to learn what it takes to make good compositions that communicate. I feel like graphic design can give me the tools I need, and skills that go into making a successful piece of art.
Motion Design
Motion design is the process in which designers create a logo, website, template, or animation using imagery accompanied by sound. Artists must ask the question of how to take something that is simple and somewhat bland, flavorful and exciting to watch. Because many things in this day and age are digital, motion graphics plays a big role in trying to grab your attention, whether you’re on Instagram, Snapchat etc. Some messages are too complicated for small formats like posters and signs, therefore animation or video must be used instead. This is why motion graphics caught my attention, it doesn’t seem like something you can quite escape.

Brand and Identity Design
Brand and Identity Design is crucial to having a successful business or trustworthy image. When a designer is given the task of creating an identity for a business, there’s many things that go into the process. Paying close attention to color choices, and themes, keeping in mind the tone you want to convey. Websites, packaging, everything should have some flare. Before any of this can happen however, you must know the purpose of your business, its personality and how you want the world to see you. I feel this job has a lot of useful skillsets and methods for producing something that will be a success.
