The two typefaces that always catch my eye are Garamond and Didot. The founder of Garamond was a man name Claude Garamond who died way back in 1561! It was later rediscovered in 1615! Garamond i often used for printing books and body text. These letters have a very organic structure, almost mirroring handwriting with a pen. However, if you look closely in the detail Garamond is a bit more structured and also a bit more upright.

Didot is a group of typefaces named after the famous French printing and type producing Didot family. Didot was a member of the Parisian dynasty that dominated France! He is remembered today as the namesake of a series of Neoclassical typefaces that exquisitely captured the Modern style. Vogue has used divot since 1955!

When comparing the two you can see the weights between the vertical and horizontal strokes in Didot. They purposely don’t appear how it would if you wrote with a pen. Its very easy to see that the stroke axis in Garamond isnt 90 degrees. There are also far more serifs than in Garamond, it is very apparent in the lower case “e”. I feel as though garamond is alot more smooth with better transitions as didot is more stiff and abrupt.
