New and Old

Century

Century was designed in 1891 by Linn Boyd Benton as the main font in the Century magazine. This is a bold font with strong verticals and pronounced serifs. It was designed to be easy to read and for well together on a page. This was later used as the main type in scholbooks and larger tests.

Didot

This is in comparison to Didot, a newer and equally as commonly used font, this font was designed in 1919 by a french printer. This font may look similar to century but it’s thinner crossbars and loops make it a much more elegant font. The thick to thin contrast gives Didot its look as well as the curved serifs make it flow nicely. This is not commonly used in news articles and by high class businesses.
