The reading about white space and active space, made me realize that I never really thought about white space as its own thing. Designs need to be full, but its a fine line between being full and being overwhelming. For a good design, the artist uses white space in order to break up his design so there isn’t too many things going on to distract the viewer. Having too much white space is an issue as well as it can make the design look awkward or unfinished. I hadn’t previously realized how important this was and how we all make decisions using white space in our lives.
The writer uses pouring coffee as an example that stuck out to me, like with pouring coffee if you have too much of a design on a page and not enough space left you end up with too much of a good thing which turns into a bad thing. Where we see a lot of white space choices in our own lives is when we decorate our rooms. Some people cover their walls with posters with no space in between, while other people prefer to have minimal decor on their walls with a good amount of white space around and between them. Like with every aspect of art, the use of white space is relative to the person creating it and what they enjoy.
