Repetition
This represents repetition because the wood panels in the picture are running the same way and are repeated throughout the space. The repetition combines the image into one space and unites everything, by simplifying the overall space.

Variety
Variety is the concept that different elements can come together yet they break up the constancy of the overall design in one way or another. The elements could be varying in their size, color, or different entirely. However, in the above example, the canvases varying in their color because they are all the same leaf on a colored background, with the only differences being the background color and the angle of the leaf.

Balance
The below image represents balance because the canvas is centered between the test tubes, with two test tubes on each side of it. This shows balance because it shows visual equality which is visually appealing to the eye.

Contrast
Contrast is the concept that elements that may have different sizes, colors, shapes, and other properties that make them stand out from one another. The coffee mug in the photo shows the contrast between the yellow and teal colors. The dark tones of the teal allow the bright tones of the yellow to pop out, therefore creating contrast in the design.

Proportion
The below image represents proportion because all of the three objects are plants, however, two of the plants are much smaller than the center one.

Emphasis
The image below represents emphasis because it is the only object on the wall, which draws your eyes to the center of the wall. Which takes your focus away from the emptiness of the wall and allows you to focus on the decor.

Gestalt Theory
Throughout my reading of the Gestalt Theory, I learned how it intertwines psychology and focuses on how our minds perceive the different surroundings. This theory explains how our brains perceive compositions as a whole rather than focusing on individual elements that make up the composition.
