Design is a combination of all kinds of elements. The are designed to give you a servain feeling or give off a specific vibe. Usually they can be placed in a design category based on how they are made and arranged.
Rhythm
We can look at specific images to see their design category. First let’s look at the waves. When you think of waves, you think of the back and forth movement, how they crash on the shore, even though none of that she shown in the picture, it is part of the picture. This is the rhythm of the picture. The vibe you get from it is calm and relaxing with a constant pattern of the waves on the shore.
Unity
Let’s look next at the picture of pink starburst. As my roommates favorite flavor of starburst, this is the bag that we usually have in out apartment. This repetition of the same shape, color, and we know flavor, has a specific unity to it. They are not organized but they are all the same. exact copies of each other.
White Space
Going in order, we see next the add for apple airpods. The (now) white apple logo is one of the most well known logos. It does not need an explanation or a description of what that white apple mean. The placement of all their white products on a white background shows this. they do not need to try too hard for it to stick out. We see the airpods by themselves on the left side of this add. Apple utilized the white space around the airpods to draw you in. No need to say exactly what they are. On the right is the information if you were going to buy them, because obviously you are going to buy them, they are apple. They know airpods are a desirable product so they leave the information there.
Proportion
We look next at the image of a person appearing to hold a hot air balloon. Obviously they are not but the position of the camera throws the proportion off. It looks like the person is holding them but in reality they are much closer to the camera then the balloon.
Contrast
Contrast is something most people can tell you about, we see it all around us. A difference in color or shape complements or contrasts they whole picture. The picture of the apples has a contrasting red apple next to all the green apples. This stands out because our eye is drawn to the different apple sitting among all the same apples. However it is not the fact that it is red, because if we reversed the color arrangement, we would be drawn to the green apple. Our eye is trained to catch differences.
Variety
Everything has to have variety. You have to have variety in your everyday life, if your breakfast choices in your happenings at work, in your outfits. Variety is key to making things interesting. We can also see variety around us. A simple example is the crayons in the last picture. There is a variety of colors. There is no rhyme or reason to the roder, but they are all crayons and when you color, you need different colors to make a picture.
