The Design and The Play

The author talks about the perspective and opportunities that school teaches kids. I agree with his ability to express that school doesn’t provide enough perspective, when he says, “The student has an illusion of creating great art in an atmosphere of freedom, when in fact he is handicapped by the absence of certain disciplines which would evoke ideas, make playing with those ideas possible, work absorbing, and results interesting.” I really think this is a strong quote because he’s lashing at the schools informing that this isn’t the way kids should be taught. The reason why I agree with this is because from the first day you are in school, you are part of that system. Kids don’t have any real opportunity to elaborate their ideas and imaginations. Now school isn’t all a bad thing, but I do agree that it does institute us.

Games are a way to intrigue someone into playing or problem solve it. Graphic design does this by creating what seems to be easy, into really complex fun games. These problem solving games are a good “mind exercise”, because people want to solve it, and then after solving it get that boost of confidence that they wanted. The games help sharpen the powers of observation though the resemblances through the geometric and natural forms. The Chinese toy the Tangram is one good example of this because you have to make a design out of an image with five triangles, one square and one rhombus.
