Reaction to The Design and The Play:
This was a very interesting read I learned new things and gained different perspectives on how students learn. In order to keep a student’s focus you have to arouse their curiosity and hold their attention by keeping the brain thinking. Two factors to this are the kind of problem and how it is posed. I agreed with this because how the problem is given is the first impression and stays in the brain the entire time. It is very helpful while learning to apply the basic principles and have rules. There needs to be some form of guidelines or else the brain wanders and doesn’t stay on track. I really liked how Alfred Whitehead said, “Pupils have to be made to feel they are studying something”. This stuck with me because while solving something or analyzing artwork or creating artwork, you don’t want to have a lifeless stare, you want your eyes to be engaged so it can pull your brain in and you can begin your train of thought. There has to be a form of mental stimulation. I responded to these ideas in a very good way and they opened my eyes. I have always had the perspective of observing things; people, places and environments. And with creating or solving something we have to stimulate observation to allow the pathway of creativity to be open.
