The first thing that caught my eye about this the first time reading through was the crossword puzzle. As a family we have bee doing them since I was very little and I was always very interested but had no idea that they had been around so long! The crosswords try to do three things to keep you interested, keep the urge to solve the unknown while also keeping it orderly. The third reason its so popular is it causes a lot of mental stimulation. It feeds my OCD and makes time go by so fast for me.
I defiantly agree with the authors perspective of teaching from the position I am in. I think when learning is pushed too quickly or crammed it is not able to be taught to its full potential. Growing up I was fortunate to go to a smaller well funded school in New Hampshire, we often played games and these games helped me develop into the persona I am today along with the knowledge of how I learn best. I also agree with the rules aspect however, if certain rules are not set early or the child is simply not disciplined then teaching that student would be a lot more difficult. You cannot teach somebody anything if they do not wish to learn.
“Without the basic rules or discipline, however, there is no motivation, no test or skill, or ultimate reward in short- no game.” I really like this quote because it helped me realize how in control of my own learning I am. I am the most important player in my game!
