Surprised, Slurp, Sizzle

Surprised

Before researching into the meaning of the word “Surprised” I had already encountered the word on a weekly if not daily basis. The meaning that I had always taken from it is being in the act of showing surprise. Meaning that something has happened that you may not have fully expected, possibly changing an outcome of a situation, could be positive or negative. Once I researched the word I came with the definition of it being involved or caught off guard by an unexpected event, causing a “surprised” mental state. The word comes from medieval Latin word “superprehendere” meaning sieze. Like stated earlier, it can either be good bad or neutral.

Slurp

Before I looked into what the word “slurp” really meant, I had come across this word many many times before. I always associated this word with the act of loudly drinking or eating food or drink by sucking in loudly. Mainly used as an adjective. Origin of the word comes from Dutch language “slurpen” in the mid 17th century. The meaning hasnt changed much, from eating or drinking something with a loud sloppy sucking noise.

Sizzle

Sizzle is a semi-common word in everyday life, meaning the sound of food or other objects being cooked at a higher temperature. It could be described as a popping sound. The word comes from middle english language and meant “to burn with a hissing sound” dating back to most likely the 1300’s. The meaning really hasnt changed much throughout history.
