The readings talk about how certain words or moods can correlate with certain colors, and I wholeheartedly agree with this idea. Sometimes when I’m learning a new piece of music I assign certain moods to certain sections of the piece, and I’ve even tried thinking of a ‘color’ to emulate. I think all of these concepts are definitely intertwined. I thought it was interesting that the article mentioned that we perceive colors based on the pigment itself, and also on the light around it. It reminded me a lot of the “black/blue or white/gold dress” that was circling around on social media a few years ago. I like that the readings also mentioned that colors can vary from culture to culture; It implies that colors are really a way of communicating, which make it such an integral part of graphic design.
Before these readings, I was familiar with complementary colors and the primary colors, however that was the extent of my knowledge. After messing around with the Adobe color program, and reading about color systems, I feel like I have a better understanding of how colors compliment each other, even if they aren’t all right next to each other on the color wheel, or all in one color family.
