I thought the difference between subtractive and additive color was interesting. I knew that color on a screen was different from color in something like paint, but I never had a really clear idea of what was different. The way I always think of color is pretty much just subtractive. No color is white and all colors is black. But it’s the opposite for additive color. The readings also address how colors can be assigned to certain moods or words. This reminds me of how I assign colors to areas of study. Math is blue, english is pink, history is yellow or orange, and science is green. Art or music is black, and psychology is white. Those are the colors that I automatically associate with these subjects, and I may assign colors to emotions in a similar way. The way we can assign colors to certain ideas really shows how much of an influence color can have. It’s important for graphic design artists to understand color and how it works in order to use it to its fullest potential in a way that will benefit their design. And it doesn’t always have to be full color either. Just a few shapes done in color while the rest is black and white can be very impactful.
