Color Readings

Throughout reading these different articles, I was captivated by the depth and description of color in Ellen Lupton’s article. She addressed a method called optical color mixing, which is often used to create images that reflect comic book designs. We also learned about the difference between subtractive and additive color. It was interesting to learn about how color varies on-screen and off. Looking back at the way I see color, most often I see in it a more subtractive, meaning that I do not see color as white more of colors become darker, or closer to black, as we mix them. I agree with the idea of associating colors with different moods and experiences. I find myself doing this frequently, especially with my music playlists. I have color-coded and named playlists which each represent a different music mood that I may be in. Besides my playlists, I also use colors to represent different academic subjects and still use this system to this day. For example, science is always green and math is always blue. The idea that we use colors to associate things with is an interesting concept and I was intrigued to further understand this. Just simple aspects of color can change an image which is important to understand throughout graphic design.
