“Color defines the painting, creating a sense of space, mood, dimension, form, and content.”
Color can control the contrast and unity of the picture/painting. Color then sets the moods with what colors are in the picture, blue as a calm down and red to show anger, etc. Color then can show dimension with depth, the way you draw the pictures or the colors you use can make a 2 dimension picture look 3D. Color also has the ability to make parts of the drawings stand out or disappear, to hide or to highlight certain images. What I found was interesting is that Sir Isaac Newton discovered that a prism separates light into a spectrum of colors, then put into a wheel to describe relationships between colors. Another interesting thing I found out is what our eye pigments see, combining red and green should make yellow but we see blackish brown, but with more light we then start to see yellow, so lighting is a huge factor in what we perceive. There is over 16 million colors, that our eyes can perceive and no color is the same that we perceive. This is huge when designing art because color can then change the mood, contrast, dimension, and unity of the image with one color being different. There is so much color everywhere we go and everyone perceives it different, no one can see it the same way you do.
