What is Graphic Design? — Response

Graphic Design is something that caught my eye on a whim in high school and ended up sticking. I took as many classes as I could on it and learned as much as I was able to. The ability to be creative yet still involved in a technological field is what draws me to it. It’s something that influences our day-to-day lives. The physical design of a billboard, magazine cover, or website affects us even if we don’t realize it.

Typeface Design/Typography

Type Design is a subsection of graphic design that draws my attention because of how subtle it is. Type design tends to be a very intricate design form and the attention to detail that it requires is something that I really value. Since we have been forced to go digital, the text in the media that we consume is very important. For example, reading sans serif on a screen is easier than reading serif. With the amount of media and online content we are intaking lately, a subtle choice like that can have a big effect on how we feel while consuming. Below I’ve linked a video and a couple of websites that go in-depth on typeface design/typography!

Website/Interaction Design

Interaction design draws my attention because of how prominent it is in our everyday lives. The interface of a website/app is the first thing we notice. It subconsciously makes us trust/distrust the software we are using. It’s also something that I feel gives me the best of both worlds of pursuing coding but also still being creative with the interface design. The ability to do both is something that I really value and love about interaction design. Interaction design also indirectly allows me to engage with the user in a more personal manner and that is something I’ve grown to love about it. Below I’ve linked some of my favorite websites aesthetically.

Hobby + Career

This is a field that I immersed myself into highschool and it is something that I plan to continue pursuing, whether I do it as a hobby or my actual job, it something that I really do not want to give up on. It brings me a lot of satisfaction and joy to design a website for others. The work you put into it paired with the reaction that you get in response is something I love and am not ready to give up on.
