Graphic design has always been an interest of mine, but I was never able to use it to its full potential. I used to have photoshop a few years ago and loved it! The problem was I never knew how to properly use photoshop so I got very frustrated. With taking graphic design, I would like to learn how to use photoshop the way it is supposed to be used and create some beautiful pieces! I am a very visual and hands on person which makes this class something that might be one of my strengths. I am also a perfectionist so I know I am going to work hard to get the piece I want. With that being said, two areas of graphic design that caught my eye were package design and environmental design.
Package Design
Package design is all around us and we don’t see all the time and effort that goes into making these designs appealing to the consumers. Even the most simple designs may seem like they took little to no time to make, but in all reality it probably took a lot of hard work just for it to be appealing. This type of design interests me the most because I have seen so many different types of designs from packages I buy and I never really put any thought into them. So many designs that we see on a daily basis have a backstory to them and some interesting ones can be found here. Why is package design so important? It catches the viewers and brings in attention to itself. Just that little attention can cause a person to be intrigued in the product. In order to sell a product their needs to be a demand which will ultimately lead into sales. There are many ways to go about your package design, but there are three easy steps to follow when doing so found here. All these key components can lead to a perfect design that will create a beautiful piece.
Environmental Design
My second most intriguing type of design is environmental design. I am an environmental studies major and I saw the first word environmental and got sucked into it! I did not know that graphic design was all around us, but it really is when you think about it. Environmental design seems so beautiful to me and something that I may do in my near future. There are so many designs out there that have caught eyes all around and will be remembered. Environmental design goes beyond the computer. It takes designs into real life that you can touch and see.
