Helvetica Film Review

As I was already interested in type face and what it can do for a graphic designer this film was very helpful in learning more about it and and just enjoyable to me. Type face is so interesting in how it is the font of the words that can change your perception of something. Well the font or type face is just its own art itself. It can make us see how every little thing is art. Every little piece of your project can have effect on the project as a whole. This shows how type face is important in graphic design and also fun.

‘You’re always a child of your time, and you cannot step out of that.”

I love this quote as it reminds me of one of my favorite type faces growing up. It was called “Ketchup” and it just reminded me of a little kids handwriting, it was just cute and simple. This also made me think back into elementary school when all I was doing was changing the type face on everything because that was one of the only way to make my papers/projects have some character. You are always you, and I still love the same fonts I did as a child.

“Just because its legible doesn’t mean it’s communicative”

I really thought this quote stood out because I very much agree with it. Simply just because we can read something doesn’t mean it’s going to catch our eye. Maybe to us it looks boring or uninteresting and we don’t even read a certain billboard when driving by. When the font compliments the aesthetic behind the whole idea of the project/message you are creating, it can be much more eye catching or visually pleasing. I agree that the visuals are just so important to get your message across if it is being passed by.

“Type is saying things to us all the time. Typefaces express a mood, an atmosphere. They give words a certain coloring.”

This quote, in my opinion, was just very well said. Typeface can bring about a whole change in mood and atmosphere, I completely agree. It is just so interesting how it is like changing the color of something, it is a whole new vibe to whatever you’ve written. Type face allows you to be much more expressive with the words you choose.
