Elements of Graphic Design Chapter 1

Throughout the reading, I thought that all while the post spoke of catching the reader’s eye or holding the reader’s eyes to intrigue them to stay on the page or read the post. I noticed that there are words everywhere, all over the page, and it doesn’t make the reader want to read these articles and posts. It is all up in your face, and it feels clustered and forced together. The entire article talks about space, and there seems to be very minimal spacing between the paragraphs. I did notice that on the side of the pages, there would be some quotes and pictures to go with some of the dialogue within the article, underneath some of these pictures are whitespace; this is an example of active space.  This is shown on page 16 of the article. On most of the pages toward the top of the page, there would 4 sections reserved for text and pictures to go along with those small texts. This would be an example of empty space because the graphics and text are purposely placed there for strategic appeal for the reader. As told at the beginning of the article, good design catches the reader’s eye, so something similar or consistent is something that readers will notice and not overlook. I thought that there was too much text on every page, and as stated in the article, “by having too much of a good thing, we have created a problem”.
