The Design and Play

The basic design problem stated by the article by Paul Rand is  “The basic design problem properly stated, is an effective vehicle for teaching the possibility of relationships: harmony, order. proportion, number, rhythm, symmetry, color, contrast , texture , and space it is an equally effective means for exploring the use of unorthodox materials and for learning to work within specific limitations.” I know that was a long quote but I feel its one of the best statements in the article. To me I feel like all these individual components of design are obviously important to learn, but I think It shows when someone is able to use them in harmony effectively as appose to individually. Thats something I’m looking to work on in this class I don’t feel I can effectively blend everything yet but I know its early. I found the crossword puzzle to be really interesting, I used to do them a lot when I was younger. I learned one of the main reasons for the popularity of the game Is it fulfills the human urge to solve the unknown. When I thought about that it makes a lot of sense and I remember once I found a few I was so focused on trying to solve all the rest, it never occurred to me the design of the game plays a big factor.
