Upon reading the chapter regarding space in design, I have come to terms with why I am attracted to certain posters, newspapers, and so on. For me, I love a lot of color and active space, it’s what my eye is usually drawn too. However, when it is a piece of design I am looking at in order to be informed, I would rather there be more white space, as my memory works best with little information at a given time. This is how space ind design informs the eye, when less is more. When a office wants their staff to attend an important meeting, they want a design that attracts the readers to the time and place of the event. This is when white, or ’empty’ space is important, the readers brain remembers the little information given, which is all the designer intended. Now, say the designer made the poster so that there were more active space. This would imply more crowding, where potentially unrelated elements are put into the design. While have unrelated parts put together to organize an idea is the idea of design, for a time and place poster, this may not be best. Space in design explains greatly why our brains react to certain things like posters and billboards, a great perspective to be learned.
