What is Graphic Design?
I am new to the graphic design world, but I am excited to be in it because I find it helpful for my future. With my major being business, I find this art class to be most suitable for me. For instance, I am most interested in advertising, where graphic design will be used frequently. I have also realized my lack of skill with computers, so I am hoping to advance it by taking a class such as this. Reading the first chapter, I am already familiar with most of the topics at hand, having a few peak my interest.
Advertising Design
when reading up on advertising design from a small blog the tips and ads they showed the different ways it can be utilized. Advertising design caught my attention because it seems more like a business orientated type of design where you can do research to figure out what people might like for whatever it is that you are advertising. You can do research to see what visuals would catch the consumers attention the most. for example if your advertising for a food company you want to make sure you have a picture of the new item looking as good as possible and probably the price as well if it will give the competitors a run for their money. Another important part of advertising design I learned from a LiveWire article is the ability to work with clients, which I also think ties into the business side of advertising.
Environmental Design
Environmental design I think has a lot more to do with making someone feel happy in their surroundings. I think that environmental design interested me because the thought of building a room or display that could bring people of similar interests together into a comforting atmosphere that makes them feel like the room speaks for itself. In a learn.g2 article I read it spoke of five different types of environmental graphic design, of the five my favorite was”placemaking and identity”. I enjoy this one because its the part of EGD that separates anything from a stores interior to a homes, It makes every place unique by itself. This gives the designer a chance to make places special and differentiate them from competitors if for example your creating a unique store interior. The whole store can have a special feel that can only pertain to that individual store.
