I enjoy graphic design. However for me it’s more of a fun hobby. I’m a nursing major here at Keene, and truly I just needed an art credit. Although I do love taking photos! I like how with graphic design you can take editing/designing your photos a step farther. It can really help make you stand out compared to everyone else. I see photography as a very fun hobby that I thoroughly enjoy and I look forward to taking what I learn in this graphic design class and applying it to some of my original images.
I absolutely love book jacket design! These past few years I’ve learned to fall in love with reading. Originally, I would only grab a book that stood out to me on the shelves in my school library. After all, no one ever wants to look at a boring old cover. Honestly, I don’t think many people would even consider picking up a book that looked ragged and grabby. I love playing around with both subtle and vibrant colors. I enjoy getting to mess around with patterns and layouts that are unique and still something you’d want to carry around with you rather than hide it in your backpack or bag. Personally, when I read I visualize the story in my head. Being able to incorporate that visualization into the cover and even add some new and creative ideas to it would help make a great statement for the author. Creating something that’s eye catching that would look clean and professional, is definitely more beneficiary to help others fall in love with reading too – especially with a book cover you created.
Publication design can make a huge statement. I love how significant it is on getting across what you want the major takeaway to be from your message. This past year you see a lot of how public design can influence others and help share your own goals. Photography was a HUGE part of my life in high school, sadly I am starting to drift away as I become more swamped in college work, but I think it’d be a good excuse for me to get back into as I reflect on or even add my own original photos. I find it to be very impressive when a graphic designer or artist is able to put together a visual that captures the minds of their audience that becomes engraved into everyone’s brain. You can hear the same story over and over again, but you’re going to be way more likely to remember that story if you have an outstanding visual design to go with it.
