I am looking to use these skills that I learn from this class to add to my overall computer knowledge since I am a Computer Science Major. I am already familiar with using various computer programs but would like to expand my knowledge in other areas as well. Reading about the different types of designs was very interesting to learn about because it introduced me to a whole new side of computers that I’ve never really thought about. Two types of design that caught my attention the most were motion design and brand and identity design. I liked these two because they are designs that we are constantly surrounded by. Motion design we see on TVs, cellphones, etc, while brand and identity design we always associate with our favorite brands. Learning about these types of design open my eyes to view the things around me differently.
Motion Design:
Motion design is a type of design that is used widely across a lot of different fields. It is seen everywhere in our day-to-day lives- movies, commercials, on our cell phones, etc. Motion Design adds sounds and movement to videos, which help describe a narrative or present an idea to an audience. This type of design was very interesting to me because of how it is used everywhere. We are constantly surrounded by this type of design, whether we are watching a video on our phones or at the movies. Without motion design, we would not have many of the movies and advertisements we see today.
Brand and Identity Design:
Brand and identity design was one of my favorite ones to learn about. It helps companies make their own logo/ design that creates a visual identity for themselves. Logos are unique to each company, which is why I liked this type of design so much. So many factors such as colors, text fonts, sizes, shapes, etc. are all factors that go into making a unique logo. All of these factors help create the perfect logo that can make a huge difference in a companies advertising. Brand and Identity design surrounds us on the daily, whether we drive by a Mcdonald’s sign, or when we see an ad on our phone. I find it fascinating how there are so many elements of graphic design that can play into making a company unique from others.
