Introduction:
I have always had an interest in graphic design. I like art but I’ve never been too good with drawing or other art related things. I would say that I’m proficiently good at using technology so using computers to help make art is easier for me. I took a class in high school on how to use the basics of Photoshop and liked it. In the class we learned how to make a poster for a school play and one of the more interesting things we did is that we got to colorize our families black and white photos. I am majoring in computer science so graphic design can have some impact/help with my major. In the reading, the two graphics designs that caught my attention and interested me the most were book jacket design and brand and identity design. What made me have interest in these designs were the way they are designed to attract an audience and how important they really are.
Book Jacket Design:
My first type of graphic design that I’m interested in is book design. Book Design is the graphic design art that is usually found on the cover of books. The job of the design on the cover is to attract an audience. Having a bad book jacket design can hurt the sales of the book since the cover is kind of like a poster advertising the book. What is cool about the book jacket design is that there are usually few words but instead the design has to display a message about the book that will captivate the audience. Brand and Identity Design:
My second type of graphic design that I’m interested in is brand and identity design. Very similar to the job of a book cover, brand and identity design’s job is to captivate an audience. One of the first things that brand and identity designs do is create logos. Logos are easy ways for costumers to see a face of what the company might be about. This site shows 99 creative logo designs. Another thing that brand and identity design do are create websites for users. With technology being a huge part of almost everyone’s lives, websites show a lot about a company. An easy to use website usually is thanks to the design that it uses. This website says that around 75% of users make judgements on the credibility of a company based on the designs. That’s a huge number and that just shows you how important brand and identity designs are.
