Helvetica Movie Post

Helvetica

One thing about the movie Helvetica I thought was different was the was it was directed and played out. I thought a lot of the interviews gave a lot of good insight and also different perspective. Another thing I found interesting was the scenery it provided throughout the movie with Helveticas text. Though I thought it was neat I felt at points it slowed the movie down a lot.

Michael Bierut

Throughout the movie I did hear a few quotes that stuck out to me for various reasons. The first one that stuck out to me I anticipate to be a favorite in the class. Michael Bierut’s quote was “It’s The Real Thing. Period. Coke. Period. Any Questions? Of Course Not.” Referring to a Coca Cola add in a magazine back in the day. Its obviously a very simple quote/ statement, but I think that’s why I was drawn to it. To me I feel these words carry a lot more weight than the space they take up. Not to mention how clean it is. Coca-Cola is obviously such a high standard brand as well so Having this design scheme is very important to Helvetica.

Massimo Vignelli

Another quote I heard that I thought was really cool was said in reference to Italian designer Massimo Vignelli. Im not sure if I have it right word for word because the audio was tough to hear but what I have written down is “It was his hand doing the work but you could see his mind at work.”  I found this cool because he’s explaining how he brings his lettering and patterns to life.

The third quote I liked was by Rick Porrior he said “Graphic designers are those putting wires into our heads.” To me this means  when you look at something like a sign that’s ascetically pleasing subconcesily it peaks your interest and could potentially be a draw for a customer who’s never been in.
