The concept o space is a very important thing to understand when dealing with graphic design. Space design has informed my eye in many ways after reading this chapter. When thinking about space in a design, the questions “What are the elements I have to work with? Where do these elements go? What structure is necessary so they go together?” are very important to consider through out each project. An example of empty space in my physical environment is my little coffee table in my dorm. It has a top and a bottom but in between is nothing filling it in. So the empty space is in between the top and the bottom of the coffee table. An example of active space is, back to the coffee table, is the material of the table itself. The top and bottom of the table is being connected by small poles of the same material to hold it up. The coffee table id only about 1 foot tall. So as the top and the bottom are active space, the space and air in between the top and the bottom is the empty space. Learning about different type of space in graphic design is very important one learning graphic design, especially for the first time.
