11 principles of design

Rhythm

This was the first principle of design that caught my eye. I think of all the designs it is one of the cleanest and has a very cool flow in most pieces. To me its fun to look at and appears pleasant to the eye.

 Movement

Movement is a cool way to draw an observers eye, I feel its the most influential to guiding where the viewer is looking and in what way their eyes take them through the visual. It is used to guide the viewers eye to a pre determined path.

White Space

the most unique style is white space because if done right it can be two different shapes depending on which color you look at. This style uses negative space to make multiple images appear depending on what your eye is drawn to.

 Variety

Variety means adding a change to disrupt the monotony of composition. It is one of the more unique designs due to all that could be included into it.

 Unity

Unity means creating a sense of visual similarity between different elements in a composition. In the example I chose it is a picture of a big butterfly created by a bunch of smaller butterflies. I think these are some of the coolest unity pieces.

 Repetition

A component is repeated when other components with features similar to it are arranged in composition. Some of the coolest pieces I’ve seen include drawings of famous people made out of their signatures written and reapated over and over again to create a bigger picture. The picture I included below is of Kobe Bryant and while it is difficult to see the whole piece is done by repetition of his signature.

Gestalt

I learned that Gestalt is a German words and stands for a pattern figure, form or structure that is unified. The psychology gf it picked up in 1920, it seeks to make sense of how our minds perceive things in whole forms, rather than their individual elements. “The main idea was that when we perceive the world there are many different signals coming in at the same time.” According to these articles it is important for modern day designers to become comfortable with the set of ideology.
