I enjoy how the author references design to being a game, and how we thrive from the game much better when we are able to make the rules somewhat our own. Personally I enjoy a puzzle or game that challenges me, like sudoku. However, I don’t want to be guessing wrong answers because the rules are too bare. Everyone wants to live by their own rules, a little guidance can be helpful in getting the ball rolling, but at some point you go to let them take over and make it their own. It reminds me a lot of cooking. There’s probably a recipe that gave you the idea or perhaps you are even following along with. At some point you are going to want to remove or add things that fit your preferences and make you happy with what you’re creating. I like how in our last class project we were give simple puzzle pieces to work with, but in reality we were able to create any creations that we wanted for the categories. If we had to many rules on what to do or not do, no one would’ve really enjoyed it and there would be a major lack of originality. With some guidance given and a basis to go off of, everyone was able to come up with something original and share with us a new perspective on the different things you can do with design.
