The Play & The Design
This article was interestingly fascinating for reasons that shocked me. I found that I was intrigued by the little things, or things that are not so important. The first thing I gathered from the article is that the outline and the resources available truly make the piece. As well as this, the motivation behind the piece plays a great role in its outcome. Some of the examples provided heavily relied on geometry to form the design. This was also interesting to me separately, because when you think of artistic pieces, math never really comes to mind. Yet it can actually be a very useful tool. Along with geometry, the designs actually heavily relied on “outside sources” such as mechanical limitations, economic considerations, and time factors. This like blew my mind because I always thought of designs and art as such a free thing, without any kind of restraints. However, this article showed me that there is a lot more background thought that goes into it, and that is sometimes the more important factors. I feel like personally I have never put this kind of thought into my art or creative side, but it is definitely something I would do in the future. With this being said, I don’t think that it takes away from art or designs at all. It is just another way of looking at graphic design.
