Over time graphic design has changed dramatically. Graphic design has been shaped/changed by social, cultural, political, and technological circumstances. Graphic design is the result of many art movements being combined together. It is important to understand the importance each graphic design movement. Understanding them all creates an emphasis on the significance of the different pieces of art.
Surrealism
Surrealism is one of my favorite graphic design styles that I read about. Surrealism started to be noticed as the dada art style trend was coming to an end. This style of art is cool because its based around dreams and the exploration of the mind. The images and pieces of art are like something from hallucinations. They are really bizarre and make you question the reality of them. Here is a link to 10 really cool examples of surrealism.
Cubism
Cubism was made famous due to Pablo Picasso’s paintings and sculptures. Cubism is the use of using distinguished geometric shapes and objects to make art look like its one picture but actually made up of different geometric sections. I like this form of art because its cool how if you zoom in a certain part it wont make sense but once you see the bigger picture it makes sense.
De Stijl
De Stijl starting becoming popular in the 1920’s. De Stijl is a form of art, made of straight lines and primary colors. I like this form of art because its simple but yet it the way the lines and colors are combined make it seem more complicated then it is.
Psychedelic Language
Psychedelic Language art was influenced by Hippies using drugs. Most notably LSD and ACID because hippies though it expanded their mind. I like this art because of the bright color schemes and thought provoking art.
