Color can convey a mood, describe a reality, or codify information. Color serves to differentiate and connect, to highlight and to hide. — Ellen Lupton
Create a series of color schemes for your translations using the Adobe color tool.
1
Make an Adobe account to save your colors and bring them into illustrator.
If you ALREADY have an account, which you all should have, then you can skip this step.
2
Log into the Adobe color tool site at: https://color.adobe.com
Experiment with the color sliders, move them around to find the colors you want, and create color schemes in the categories below.
***I want you to not have all 5 categories have the same colors in them, for example: have them all blue because you “like blue”. Experiment outside your comfort zone, sometimes those colors work best on translations, such as dijon mustard yellows or obnoxious slimy greens.
- Analogous
- Monochromatic
- Triad
- Complimentary
- Compound
Name the color themes with a descriptive and interesting name. Look at the colors in your group and ask “how does it make you feel” or “what does it remind you of?”
For example, name your colors with a prefix of the color type:
- Analogous =
- Monochrome =
- Triad =
- Complimentary =
- Compound =
and a descriptive and interesting name :
- analogous – rusty nails
- compound – scissor fight
- complimentary – iguana explosion
- monochrome – burnt sun desert
- triad – cotton candy at the county fair
3
Save your color schemes with playful and interesting names such as analogous – green tea diffusion, or monochrome – burnt sun desert. Look at how colors are named for paints such as Behr. Create at least one color scheme in each category to start.
This is an example of the screen shot I want you to send me by Tuesday night. It shows all your 5 color themes as well as what you called them.
Due Tuesday, April 6th
- Create your 5 different color themes using the Adobe Color Tool link provided above.
- Take a screen shot and create a post of these 5 color themes titled: MY COLOR THEMES
Due Thursday, April 8th
