Garamond is an Old Style font while Didot is a more modern one. I found comparing both of them particularly interesting because of this. Since they are both the ends of the different typefaces, it makes it easier to see the major differences between the both of them. For example, the serifs in Garamond are more rounded than the serifs in Didot. Didot’s serifs are stick straight. Didot has a thinner hairline than Garamond does, Garamond’s tends to be thicker. The bowl of Garamonds a’s is a lot more curved than Didot. Didot’s looks a lot “neater” in a sense whereas Garamond looks more “handwritten.”

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="" src="https://miro.medium.com/max/970/1*PkZlq-3sZHgp5dHpZt4_Ig.png" alt="Typeface: Garamond. For example, neither font is too squished. The kerning between both fonts is even and nice on the eyes. Both fonts have a similar-sized counter in their O’s, D’s, and A’s. Both have a professional feel to them as well. Overall, both are really nice fonts to use for any purpose.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="" src="https://i.pinimg.com/originals/a5/f4/19/a5f4195ad1a510d307e61d454b211761.png" alt="Hannes F. It has a more handwritten look to it which makes it feel personal. While the clean-cut lines of Didot are satisfying to see typed out, I can see myself reaching for Garamond for personal use more often. The history behind Garamond is also very intriguing. I was surprised to find out that Greek letters inspired later styles of Garamond. It was also very interesting to learn that Garamond is considered the most finished specimen of typography to exist. I agree that the typeface has a polished yet worn-in look to it.

After looking through the resources provided, I decided to compare Garamond and Didot.
