Branding is so important in the world of graphic design. Branding is used not only to make a brand more know, but also to attract new customers. When creating a brand everything matters; color, font, logo and images. People are going to remember your brand if you can make a strong design and sense of consistency with it. Target is a great example of a brand that everyone knows just from the color palette. I loved the quote “Great brands are like friends—you encounter a huge number of them everyday, but you only remember the ones you love.” This is very true. We as people pass by so many brands every single day and our brains only remember the ones that stand out to us. As a designer I need to start focusing on what not only I enjoy but what the public enjoys so that my logos and ultimately the brand itself stands out in the world. Design is powerful and purposeful.
Logos are hugely important in the world of graphic design. Effective branding can create lasting customers just based on the logo of something. “Consumers often choose products based on perceived value rather than actual value”. This can be very true for brands like Gucci, Chanel, Dior etc, just for the logo. People might not buy something for the quality of the product, but they buy it for the logo, or the fact that they are wearing something with a well know designer brand on it. Because you could either buy a Prada bag with the Prada logo on it, or you could buy a dupe that looks exactly the same but no logo. Most people will go for the logo. We as designers have a chance to make lasting, iconic designs and I think that is very neat to think about that someday maybe I will design a brand that will be more popular for the logo than the actual product. According to the reading, branding can also impact a products visibility and sales. This goes back to the logo itself. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter what the product is, it is all about what the consumer likes visually.
